How to Book a Physio Appointment

To book a physio appointment at Bluebell, you can book online or call 01634 757123. You do not need a GP referral if you are paying yourself, appointments run Monday to Saturday from 8am to 8pm, and same-week appointments are usually available. If you are claiming on health insurance, check your insurer's authorisation steps before you book. The rest of this page explains what to have ready and what happens next. This is general information, not a diagnosis. An individual assessment is needed before deciding what suits you.

Choosing the right type of appointment

Most people start with a standard physiotherapy assessment. If you already know you want sports massage, shockwave therapy for a persistent tendon problem, women's health physiotherapy or a session in the hydrotherapy pool, mention it when you book so the team can guide you. If getting to the clinic is hard, ask about a home visit instead. When you are unsure, describe the problem and the team will suggest where to begin, without any pressure to book more than you want.

Step 1: decide whether physio is the right start

Physiotherapy suits most aches, pains, injuries and stiffness in the muscles and joints, as well as rehabilitation after surgery. If you have any of the urgent warning signs listed further down, see a doctor first. If you are unsure, our physio or GP guide can help, or call and describe the problem.

Step 2: choose how to book

Online booking lets you pick a time that suits you at any hour. Phoning lets you ask questions first, for example about home visits, hydrotherapy or which clinician suits your problem. You can also use the contact form, and the team will get back to you.

Step 3: if you are using insurance

Bluebell works with Bupa, AXA, Vitality, WPA and Aviva. Most insurers want you to contact them first to open a claim and get an authorisation number. Some ask for a GP referral. Have your policy number handy and check how many sessions are covered and whether there is an excess. Our insurance guide explains the usual steps.

Step 4: have these details ready

It helps to have a short summary of the problem, when it started, what makes it worse, any previous treatment, and any relevant scan or hospital letters. A list of medicines is useful too. You do not need everything; your physiotherapist will ask what they need.

    Step 5: on the day

The clinic is at Warren Road, Blue Bell Hill, Chatham ME5 9RD, with free on-site parking. Wear or bring clothes that let the physiotherapist see and move the area, such as shorts for a knee or a vest top for a shoulder. Arrive a few minutes early if it is your first visit. Our first appointment guide explains what happens in the session.

When not to wait for a physio appointment

Call 999 or go to A&E for chest pain, sudden breathlessness, signs of stroke, or a serious injury. Seek urgent medical help for back pain with numbness around the bottom or genitals, new difficulty passing urine or loss of bladder or bowel control. See your GP promptly about pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, or pain that is severe and constant at night.

    Common questions

Do I need a referral to book a physio?

No, not if you are paying yourself. Some insurers require a GP referral before they authorise treatment.

How quickly can I be seen?

Same-week appointments are usually available. Evening and Saturday slots help if you work during the day.

Can I book for someone else?

Yes, you can book for a family member. They will need to agree to treatment and attend the appointment, or be at home for a home visit.

Do I have to book a course of sessions?

No. You can book one appointment at a time, and your physiotherapist will explain what they recommend after the assessment.

What if I need to change my appointment?
