Using Your Western Provident Association (WPA) Policy for Physiotherapy at Bluebell
WPA policies typically include physiotherapy under outpatient cover. WPA is known for a simple, member-friendly claims process — you can usually self-refer without a GP visit, and many members submit their own invoices for reimbursement.
How the WPA Claims Process Usually Works
- 1
Call WPA on 01823 623 000 or use myWPA online — tell them you'd like to claim for physiotherapy.
- 2
WPA will confirm your cover, any excess, and whether pre-authorisation is required (often not for standard physio).
- 3
Book at Bluebell and pay at your appointment (or ask us to invoice WPA if your policy allows direct billing).
- 4
Upload your receipt to myWPA. Reimbursement is usually within a few working days.
Insurer networks and cover rules change over time. Always confirm your current cover directly with WPA before your first appointment — or call us on 01634 757123 and we'll walk you through it.
WPA physio: before you book
WPA physio usually begins with checking your outpatient cover, any excess and whether pre-authorisation is needed for your treatment. Call WPA or use myWPA, then book with us. Our physiotherapy service page explains what happens at a first appointment, and the sports massage page explains how massage differs from physiotherapy if you are unsure which your policy covers.
WPA invoice submission
If your policy works by reimbursement, you pay at your appointment and submit the invoice to WPA yourself through myWPA. Keep each invoice, check it shows the dates and type of treatment, and upload it promptly. If your plan allows direct settlement instead, tell us when you book so the right route is set up from the start.
WPA Physiotherapy — Common Questions
Do I need pre-authorisation for physiotherapy with WPA?
For most WPA policies you can just book and claim afterwards — but for shockwave, extended courses of treatment or higher-cost interventions, call WPA first to confirm.
How quickly does WPA reimburse?
myWPA reimbursements are usually processed within 3–5 working days once your invoice is uploaded.
Does WPA cover sports massage?
WPA typically covers physiotherapy including hands-on soft-tissue work delivered by a physio. Standalone sports massage from a non-physio isn't usually reimbursable.
Can Bluebell invoice WPA directly?
Some WPA plans allow direct settlement; others prefer you claim it back. Call us on 01634 757123 with your policy and we'll set up whichever route WPA prefers.
Is there a session cap?
WPA policies have annual outpatient limits rather than per-condition caps. Check yours in myWPA before we plan a long course.
How do I submit a WPA invoice for physio?
Upload the invoice from your appointment through myWPA. Check it shows the treatment dates and type before you submit it.
Do I need to call WPA before my first physio appointment?
It is sensible to confirm your cover, excess and whether pre-authorisation applies, especially for longer courses or treatments such as shockwave.
