What Our Home Visits Include
For Families Arranging Care
Arranging help for a parent? Read our family guide to physiotherapy at home for older adults.
If you're booking physiotherapy for an elderly parent or family member, we make the process as simple as possible. We'll come to their home, assess their needs thoroughly and create a gentle but effective treatment plan.
Get in touch and let us know where you are, and we'll let you know whether we can come to you. We understand the challenges of reduced mobility and work sensitively to build confidence and independence.
What is home visit physiotherapy?
Home visit physiotherapy, sometimes called a domiciliary visit, means a physiotherapist comes to you rather than you travelling to the clinic. The assessment and treatment follow the same principles as a clinic appointment, but they take place where you live, so the physiotherapist can see the stairs, chairs and spaces you actually use every day. It suits people who cannot realistically travel, for example after surgery, during a period of reduced mobility, or when a fall has knocked their confidence.
What happens at a home appointment
The physiotherapist asks about your health, medicines and what has become difficult, then looks at walking, balance, getting up from a chair or bed, and managing stairs where relevant. Treatment may include exercises you can do safely at home, practising everyday tasks, and advice on making the home easier to move around. Family members or carers are welcome to be there if that helps. Exercises are chosen to fit the space you have.
Falls, balance and recovery after surgery
Falls prevention and balance work are among the main reasons families arrange home physiotherapy. After a hip or knee operation, home visits can also bridge the early weeks before travelling to the clinic is comfortable. Our post surgery rehabilitation page explains how rehab after an operation is planned, and the guide to home visit versus clinic physio can help you decide which suits you.
Checking we can come to you
Home visits are offered for patients who genuinely cannot travel, subject to suitability and coverage. Tell us the address when you get in touch and we will let you know whether a visit is possible. If you can travel, our clinic at Warren Road, Blue Bell Hill, Chatham ME5 9RD has free parking on site.
Cost of home physio
Home visits carry a higher fee than clinic appointments because of the travelling time involved. Ask for current pricing when you enquire, and if you have health insurance, check with your insurer whether home visits are covered before booking.
Common questions
How much does home physio cost?
Home visits cost more than clinic appointments because of travel time. Ask for current pricing when you enquire.
What is home visit physiotherapy?
It is a physiotherapy assessment and treatment carried out in your own home, for people who find it difficult to travel to the clinic.
Is a domiciliary visit the same as a home visit?
Yes. Domiciliary is the formal term for a home visit. The physiotherapist comes to your home to assess and treat you.
Can you come to my home after an operation?
Often, yes, subject to suitability and whether we can reach your address. Have your discharge letter and any hospital precautions to hand.
Can a family member arrange a home visit?
Yes. Families often get in touch on behalf of a parent. We will need the patient's agreement and some details about their health and mobility.
