Before you arrive
You do not need a GP referral to book with us privately. If you are claiming on private medical insurance, check whether your policy needs a referral or pre-authorisation code first — that one phone call saves a lot of admin later. There is free on-site parking, so allow a couple of minutes to park and find reception.
The conversation comes first
We start by listening. When did it start, what makes it worse, what have you already tried, what does a normal day look like, and what do you actually want to get back to? This part matters more than most people expect — a large share of the diagnosis comes from the history rather than the hands-on examination.
The physical assessment
Next we look at how you move, test the relevant joints, muscles and nerves, and screen for anything that needs medical rather than physiotherapy attention. Wear or bring loose clothing so the area can be seen and moved — shorts for a knee, hip or back problem, a vest top for a shoulder or neck problem.
- Movement screening and specific orthopaedic tests
- Strength, range and, where relevant, neurological testing
- Red-flag screening at every first appointment
Treatment and your plan
We treat on the day wherever it is appropriate — hands-on work, mobilisation, taping or an electrotherapy where indicated. You leave with a clear explanation, a realistic timeline, a small number of exercises you will actually do, and an agreed plan for how many sessions we expect and when we will review it.
Common questions
How long is the first appointment?
Longer than a follow-up, because the assessment takes time. Exact appointment lengths are shown against each appointment type in the online booking system.
Do I need to bring anything?
Bring any scan reports or letters you have, a list of medication, and your insurance details if you are claiming. Otherwise just suitable clothing.
Will I be given exercises?
Almost always — but a short, realistic set. Ten exercises nobody does is worse than three that get done.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, you are welcome to bring a family member or friend into the appointment.
